The Pilbara on Destination WAPosted on
You may have seen tourism experiences and towns within the Shire being featured on Destination WA from December throughout February. Presenter Trevor Cochrane and his crew were out and about for weeks filming our gems! A total of 16 stories from our Shire were showcased, from Lestok’s mine and gorge tours, to The Flying Sandgroper’s Karijini tours, the Tom Price Tourist Park, the Karijini Experience, the Eco Retreat, Cheela Plains Station Stay, to Onslow and the Mackerel Islands, the Beach Resort, Peedamulla Campground, Millstream National Park and more. You can view these through this website! Our towns of Tom Price, Paraburdoo and Onslow also made the big debut! This was a joint initiative between the Shire and our local tourism operators, with the intent to make ourselves more widely known as a uniquely Pilbara adventure tourism destination. The Pilbara is rich of breathtaking gorges, pools, rocks that are 3.5 billion years old, amazing astronomy, aboriginal culture, coastal and fishing experiences … we wanted to showcase it all!
This television campaign saw the Pilbara go from hardly any coverage to be the most heavily focused area in the state in the summer series of Destination WA with nearly 60 minutes of content over 3 months of broadcast. We wish to thank the tourism operators and other stakeholders who have participated into showcasing our fascinating region: Rio Tinto, Chevron and Australia’s North West. We hope you enjoyed viewing your own backyard on telly, if you’ve missed any episode here’s a link to them all here so you can show your family and friends and inspire them to visit!
